Welcome to the graduate school at Gangneung-Wonju National University!
I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to all perspective students considering joining our academic community. Located between the Sulak Mountain and the East Sea, our university offers a unique blend of academic excellence, diverse opportunities, and a supportive environment for our graduate students.
Our rigorous academic programs and commitment for student success set us apart from the other universities in South Korea. We pride ourselves on offering students a wide array of options to suit your academic and career goals. Whether you are pursuing a master or doctoral degree or a professional certificate, the opportunity to work with faculty members one-on-one is considerably greater than generally found in most programs. Our dedicated faculty are passionate about mentoring and guiding students to reach their full potential.
Since its inception in 1988, our graduate school has introduced 44 doctoral and 8 cooperative processes. Our Master program is offered by 55 departments, 12 cooperative processes, and 2 contract departments. In 2026, our university will merge with Kangwon National University. The initiative for the merger begin after being selected for the Glocal University 30 project and full scale preparation for integration has already begun. This coalition program will allow us to diversify our curriculum and add new areas of studies, thus creating a better and competitive educational system. We are continuously striving to develop new programs to meet the evolving needs of our students and community.
In addition to academic programs, students can expect to have a rich experience in the city of Gangneung. Our city offers many cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities for exploration and personal growth. From its stunning beaches and extensive park system to its lively downtown offering museums, art galleries, traditional night markets, and local restaurants, Gangneung stimulates the senses of nature lovers and cultural explorers and provides a backdrop that enhances your academic experience and offers a balanced lifestyle.
